Keokuk is a city in Lee County, southeastern Iowa, located where the Des Moines River meets the Mississippi River. Its riverfront location has long made it an important transportation hub.

History

Named after the Sauk leader Chief Keokuk, the city has deep Native American and pioneer history. In the 19th century, Keokuk was a major river port and played a key role during the Civil War.
